Time Reform in Russia

Dear Customers,

Please pay attention that toggling beween standard time and daylight saving time (DST) is no longer the case in Russia, and the last weekend of October there has been no resetting of time. The resprective bill was proposed by President Medvedev and passed by by the State Dume on April 19, 2011.

The inconvenience is that most of the digital time gadgets, e.g. in computers and mobil phones, are still programmed the old way giving you wrong readings.

Russia moved its clocks one hour forward to daylight saving time on March 27, 2011. According to the new legislation this is now the country’s new standard time. It translates into all of Russia's nine time zones (formally eleven) being permanently two hours ahead of the mean solar time corresponding to the position of the sun at a given longitude.

The cancellation of DST in the Russian Federation is part of a comprehensive time reform here. So far there has been merger of four time zones into two: Kamchatka and Chukotka merged into Magadan and Samara into Moscow. It is also expected that Irkutsk and Krasnoyarsk merge at a later point, but it is not final, as of yet.
