In Russian Federation people mostly speak Russian. Nowadays there are still a lot of airports where personnel doesn’t speak English or its language skills are quite low. Even in large airports foreign crew could be lost in translation.

Russian winter. Largest part of Russian Federation has Northern climate, often severe and unpredictable. In autumn and spring alternate landings can be anticipated due to bad weather. In Europe charges for alternate landings are easily paid for by credit cards, while in most of Russian airports credit cards are not accepted.
